VibeCore

We have a Specialty Devices Inc (SDI) VibeCore-DD4 Deep to support sediment cores up to 9 m in length, in up to 70 m of water depth.  Core width can range between 2’’ to 4’’ diameter.  

The VibeCore-D is a small scale vibrecore developed by SDI to make a lighter and more portable coring device. The goal included improving the efficiency of getting energy into the core tube by minimizing energy lost in accelerating the VibeCore head and any added-on weights. The result is a smaller more efficient coring device that compares favorably with much larger units but requires less energy to drive the core tube into the sediments.  

 The VibeCore-D coring device consists of a vibrating core head with weight ring, check valve, and core tube.  The light weight coring head is supplemented by a weight ring that is coupled to the core tube via rubber bumpers. The bumpers act as springs and return energy stored in the compression of the spring to accelerate the core tube. This means more of the energy goes to vibration of the core tube and less energy is lost accelerating the VibeCore head. 

 SDI has developed a new technology for the use of the float/weight rig instead of a traditional trip frame for stability in deeper water.
