Dynamic Ocean Consulting Ltd (Dynamic Ocean) is a boutique environmental consulting firm based in Port Moody, British Columbia. We are a group of multi-disciplinary applied scientists that bridge the realms of regulatory and academic applied scientists, with a strong focus on the marine environment. Our foundation is built upon the belief for the inclusion of western and Indigenous/Inuit sciences into all aspects of the regulatory life cycle, to support the understanding of existing conditions and effects assessments. About You

You are proactive, solutions focused, and technically savvy. You have experience (practical, certifications) in operation of small vessels (<30 ft) in coastal British Columbia waters. You have an aptitude for adaptation to equipment operation, such as remote operated vehicles (ROV), multi-beam sonar (MBS), side scan sonar (SSS) and hydrophones. You have the ability to work well within a team environment and be able to function independently. In this role you will be required to possess excellent communication and safety management skills. You will be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, with the ability to multi-task in your day-to-day functions. You are open to shift work, where rotations will be two weeks on and two weeks off in northern BC. In this position you will collaborate with the internal senior leadership teams and will ensure that both safety and science requirements are met for client deliverables and the safety of our environmental monitoring team.

Responsibilities (Required)

• Operation of aluminum vessels that are 24 to 30 ft in size. Vessel operation to be performed in a manner that is safe for the local conditions.

• Performance of pre and post safety inspections for the boat and safety briefings for the field team.

• Vessel maintenance (e.g. engine, fuel).

• Understanding of platforms to check for weather conditions to allow for appropriate decision making for navigation in coastal waters, or when to determine operation is not safe.

Responsibilities (Asset)

• Operation of technical equipment (ROV, SSS, MBS, hydrophones).

Qualifications and Experience (Required)

• Knowledge of coastal BC waters.

• Knowledge of pertinent legislation governing navigation and operation of vessels in BC.

• Possession of a Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine VHF (ROC-M), and Small Vessel Non-Pleasure Domestic Vessel Safety (SDV-BC, (formerly Marine Emergency Duties (MED) – A3)) Certifications.

• Minimum of five years of experience operating vessel between 24 and 30 ft in coastal waters of BC.

• Deep understanding of the operation of navigational equipment. (MFD Chart Plotter, RADAR, SONAR, GPS, AIS)

• Recognition of safety and requirements for the safe operation of vessels.

• Strong Organizational, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

• Mechanical inclination for inspections, maintenance and operation of vessel equipment (e.g. sounders, navigation, engines).

• Problem solving skills with the ability to work independently.

• Excellent attention to detail.

• Solutions-driven, forward-thinking and able to troubleshoot strategically.

• Collaborative, skilled at relationship and network building.

• BC issued Class 5 Drivers license along with a clean drivers abstract record.

• Experience with towing trailers and launching vessels.

Qualifications and Experience (Asset)

• Certification as a Divers Certification Board of Canada (DCBC) Occupational SCUBA.

• Experience operating ROVs, MBS, SSS, or hydroacoustic hydrophone equipment.

• Experience aboard offshore vessels.

• Exceptional levels of leadership, communication, and teamwork.

• Exceptional level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Location and Benefits

Our main office is in Port Moody with satellite offices in Victoria and Cumberland. This job is primarily field based and supports rotation work in Prince Rupert. Shifts will be two weeks on and two weeks off and based on an Averaging Agreement. Subsequent to the Project, there may be opportunities to support our other field operations, based out of one of our satellite offices.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is dependent on the skill level and experience of the successful candidate and will range from $70,000 to $105,000. Contractual opportunities at the equivalent hourly rate may also be discussed; however, candidates will need to demonstrate their own WorkSafeBC coverage.
